New Box Prototype

Posted on June 27, 2013 by John Willshire

It's been a month or so since Fraser started working with me on the new Artefact Cards box prototype, so I thought I'd share a few photos of where we're getting to...

We sat down with Tim Milne to talk about the cards, the story behind them and so on...

...and that really acted as a brief for Fraser to go away and come up with some initial ideas, like these...

What developed out of that was a particular way of using a cutout on the box to show the colour of the cards inside, which looks like it could further reduce the packaging around the cards by taking out the need for a sticker - you know what's inside, because you can see what's inside.  Doing more with less was always key with this project, and this seemed a really elegant way of doing that.

Somewhat fortuitously, it let us stumble across a brilliant additional benefit of the cutaway - it means that the box will act as a stand for presenting your cards to you for the easiest possible access...

We'll get some factory made prototypes next week, and we're expecting a fair bit of trial and error with them to get the dimensions absolutely spot on.

But so far, so good...
