Artefact Plus are perhaps our most called-for product yet. For those people who've said "I love Artefact Cards, but just sometimes want some that are a bit... you know, bigger".
And these are bigger, of course. They're a delightfully tactile size at 100x70mm, like an over-sized poker card, meaning there's nearly 50% more surface area than a standard Artefact Card. But just making them bigger is easy. We wanted to explore how making larger Artefact Cards more useful, too, and even more beautiful.
Firstly, there's the box… and well, what a box. Designed for us by Burgo Wharton, it features a sliding mechanism through the middle linking two separate containers filled with the cards. It’s like a playful golden brick, if you can imagine such a thing.
Inside the box, you’ll find 136 cards, split across our four core colours (Sunshine Yellow, Conscious Orange, Peacekeeper Blue and Apple Green), each of which feature a very special graph pattern.
After various experiments with styles, graphs and grids (in all shapes and sizes), we decided that we needed to make our own graph paper, a mix of enough rigidity to inform drawings and sketches, but also the necessary fluidity for creative flourishes.
Our Superglitch graph is a error-inspired design, taking a cue from an industrial printer that just couldn't hack printing really small lines. Instead, it created these beautiful little trails of dotted ink, fading in and out of existence, offering just enough structure to act as a graph, whilst still being free enough to act as a blank canvas.
Each of the four colours has the Superglitch Informal variant on the colour side, and Superglitch Formal variant on the other, a grey graph on white (see the product photos).
